ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Engaging Creative Minds (ECM) STEAM & Tutoring Program
At Furman Middle School, we are proud to offer Engaging Creative Minds (ECM), a unique program made possible through a partnership with the South Carolina Arts Commission, the College of Charleston, and the National Summer Learning Project. Thanks to this collaboration and grant funding, ECM provides our students with enriching opportunities during both the academic year and summer.
Beginning each January, students participate in ECM's rigorous and personalized tutoring sessions for one hour, where they receive targeted support to strengthen their academic skills. Following this, students engage in an exciting second hour of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) initiatives. These sessions span a wide range of activities, from performing arts to engineering, offering students a chance to explore new interests and develop creative problem-solving skills.
In addition to the school-year program, ECM continues through the summer with a multi-week camp in June. This summer experience extends the hands-on learning, allowing students to dive deeper into their creative and academic interests in a fun, collaborative environment.
Through ECM, Furman Middle School is able to provide students with a well-rounded, engaging experience that supports both their academic growth and creative development. We are thrilled to continue this partnership and offer these valuable opportunities to our students. Please contact Jessica Merritt at 803-481-8519 for more information.
Project BiG
At Furman Middle School, we are committed to providing our students with the support they need to excel academically. One of our key initiatives is Project BiG, an intensive, personalized tutoring program that runs two days per week, starting each January.
Project BiG is designed to offer targeted academic support, tailored to each student’s unique needs. Through individualized instruction and focused tutoring sessions, students receive the attention and guidance necessary to reinforce core skills and address learning gaps. The program’s goal is to help students build a strong academic foundation and make measurable progress in their studies.
By dedicating time to intensive learning twice a week, students are given the opportunity to improve in key subject areas, boost their confidence, and set themselves up for success throughout the school year.
At Furman Middle School, we believe that every student has the potential to thrive, and Project BiG is one of the ways we ensure that they receive the personalized support they deserve. Please contact Bridgett Henderson at 803-481-8519 for more information.
