Competitive Programs

At Furman Middle School, we believe that athletics play a crucial role in the overall development of our students. Our comprehensive athletics program is designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship while providing students with opportunities to compete and grow in various sports.

We proudly offer the following athletic programs:

  • Basketball: Our basketball teams compete throughout the season, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and competition. Students learn the fundamentals of the game while enjoying the camaraderie of being part of a team.
  • Cheerleading: The cheerleading squad supports our athletic teams while promoting school spirit and enthusiasm. Cheerleaders learn routines, stunts, and teamwork, showcasing their talents at games and events.
  • Football: Our football program emphasizes skill development, physical fitness, and sportsmanship. Students participate in practices and games, learning the importance of teamwork and discipline on and off the field.
  • Track and Field: This program allows students to compete in various events, promoting individual and team achievements. Track and field provides a platform for students to develop their athletic abilities while focusing on personal bests.
  • Volleyball: Our volleyball teams are dedicated to teaching students the fundamentals of the sport, including teamwork, strategy, and communication. Students participate in practices and matches, fostering a love for the game.
  • E-Sports: In addition to traditional sports, we offer an exciting e-sports program where students can compete in popular video games. This program fosters teamwork, strategic thinking, and communication skills, while also promoting a sense of community among participants.

In addition to our school-based sports, we are excited to offer junior varsity opportunities for baseball and softball through our partnership with Lakewood High School. This collaboration allows middle school students to gain competitive experience and develop their skills in a structured environment.

Organizations

At Furman Middle School, we are dedicated to fostering a sense of community and leadership among our students through various organizations.   • National Junior Honor Society (NJHS): This prestigious organization recognizes outstanding middle school students who demonstrate excellence in academics, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. NJHS members engage in community service projects and promote a culture of scholarship and service within our school.
  • Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA): The FBLA club encourages students to explore careers in business and develop essential leadership and entrepreneurial skills. Members participate in various activities, competitions, and community service projects, preparing them for future success in the business world.
  • Student Government: The Student Government Association (SGA) gives students a voice in school affairs. Members participate in decision-making processes, plan school events, and work to improve the school environment for their peers. This organization encourages leadership skills and active participation in our school community.
  • Principal's Student Advisory Council: This council consists of selected student representatives who meet with the principal to discuss issues affecting the student body. It serves as a platform for students to express their thoughts, concerns, and suggestions, fostering open communication between students and administration.
  • First Priority: This organization provides students with a platform to explore their faith and engage in meaningful discussions about spirituality and values. First Priority promotes a supportive community where students can grow spiritually and make positive connections with their peers.
  • Tribe Guard: The Tribe Guard is a student-led organization focused on promoting a safe and respectful school environment. Members are trained to help their peers resolve conflicts, encourage positive behavior, and support the overall well-being of students.
